I’m guessing that most of you reading this post will already be aware that Tim has stepped down after 11 years as chairman of our club. For those of you not already aware and still wondering who would be brave enough to try and fill his shoes well, if you’ve seen me play you’ll know that skill wasn’t necessarily a strong point but a willingness to stick my head in places where many others would think twice is still one of my best attributes so here I am. After 40 years as a (still current, just slower and softer) player for Eccleshall it is with great pleasure that I accept the challenge of running this great and much-loved club.
As a visitor to our website or follower on Facebook you’ll also no doubt be aware that last season was cut short due to the Corona virus crisis. It seems, at this time, that next season will also be affected. It currently looks as if cup competitions will be cancelled for the 2020/21 season and depending on the speed with which we can get back to playing, the league may also be shortened or numbers cut. As the advice from the RFU trickles down to us we will keep the website updated but at this time we are still at least a month away from competitive rugby and probably a lot further away than that.
Whatever form the 2020/20 season takes I’m sure that our coaches and players from ages four to fifty-four will be ready to accept the challenges thrown at us both on and off the field. I look forward to running out with my team-mates and hope to see you all down at Baden Hall as soon as it’s possible.
Thanks, Paul Firth
